CONROE, TX(July 20, 2017) — Akron made the seventh inning count for the second night in a row.

After breaking up a no-hitter in Wednesday’s come-from-behind win over the Texas Charge, the Racers used their clutch hitting to rally to a 2-1 win Thursday night.

The game was originally scheduled for Sugar Land, but was moved to the ScrapYard Dawgs field because of rain.

The contest was a true pitching duel as the Charge and Racers were scoreless the first five innings.

Rachele Fico, who allowed five hits and struck out nine while going the distance, provided Akron’s lift. The Charge got a solid showing from Coley Ries, who allowed four hits and fanned five through 5 1/3 innings.

Lauren Haeger, the winning pitcher in Tuesday’s outing against Akron, came in relief to get the final two outs of the sixth.

She also helped the Charge break the deadlock in the bottom of the inning with a sacrifice fly after Nadia Taylor led off with a single and moved into scoring position on Koral Costa’s sacrifice bunt.

Akron came back in the seventh, scoring the tying run on a bases-loaded walk, before getting the winning tally on a single.

The Charge returns home to begin a four-game series with Beijing Saturday.
